A Personal Note from Karin

In my neck of the woods of nearby Southern Vermont we're in "Mud Season." We're hitting 60 degrees today and everything's turning to rainy, goopy mush. It's the slow wake up before the energetic burst of Spring tourists, flower blossoms and outdoors activities.

I've got a solution to keep you exercising during the early Spring weather. It's probably the most off-the-wall, quirky, young-at-heart-idea you'll ever read about. It works like a charm for me and I bet it might just work for you too. So here's to moving your booty through March mud and April showers.

Check it out...

Boots Made for Walking
How hot pink rubber boots turned rainy, muddy days into exercise days

If you're like me, a few days of skipping exercise due to rain or muddy weather can put a serious dent in your body confidence. As more “off-track” days go by, my bodacious booty seems to get a bit more jiggle with every wiggle. Not good. So, what do I do when the weather is less than ideal for power walks?

Solution: Hot pink, rubber boots. After purchasing a pair of $25 boots (purchased online and on sale!) that would probably be more appropriate for a 12 year old, I’ve found my power walking resistance reduced to nothing on muddy mornings and rainy afternoons. I’m now inspired to go for a quick 20-minute walk with my dreamy new boots.

What's more, these galoshes seem to come with a few perks.

No more having to lace up my walking shoes. I slip my boots on in two seconds! No more worries of stepping in curbside doodie. Everything rinses off! No more fears of bugs crawling up my legs for this city chick turned country girl. Nothing gets through these suckers! And surprise! They seem to “go” with everything in a fun and funky kind of way.

The clincher: That rubber boot sound and fun color always helps me take whatever’s going on for me just a little less seriously. It's like channeling my inner little girl who likes to play and splash around in puddles. These magic boots put me in an instant good mood.

So am I giving a little too much inspiration to a pair of boots? Perhaps. But hey, it really works. See for yourself. Get a pair of cool rubber boots, a rain slicker, and be inspired to power walk in the rain and splash your way to a bodacious body.

Warning! Don't wait until May to get outdoors and exercise. Get ready for your cute Spring outfits now.

Here's what you do: (Click on the links below for pictures of fun boots)

  • Keep your boots by the front door for inspiration to go for a quick walk anytime

  • If you walk to work, wear them and protect your office clothing (and turn a few heads with your fab boots!)

  • Bring them to work and keep them handy for a 20-min lunch-time power walk

  • Start a hot rubber boot club at work and get the ladies to join you in your lunch-time walk)

Get your own pair at Onlineshoes.com or Zappos.com (free shipping, free exchanges and fun styles!) and you'll be ready for warm weather clothing in no time.

Thanks for reading and happy walking!

Get Healthy the Wild Woman Wellness Way
What I've Been Reading, Watching and Eating

Read: Unbridled Brilliance How the secret lives of horses reveal your power, courage and passion to achieve extraordinary results by Kendall Summerhawk. As a horse lover and former equestrian, this book was a no-brainer for me to pick up. With an eye-catching cover, heartfelt message, and encouraging, yet firm tone, it's a great business book for people who don't like to read business books.

Watch: Pan's Labyrinth I went to the movies this month and watched a story of a young girl who learns to trust herself despite the ghoulish trials and tribulations she's put through. I give it a solid B+. And you gotta love the ending!

Eat: Short Grain Brown Rice I said goodbye to my bread and pasta cravings by increasing my serving of whole grains. Every few days is all I need (and daily during PMS) to keep the baguettes at bay. In my opinion, no other grain comes close.  The sweet, chewy, and nutty flavor is deeply satisfying and the B-vitamins are pure, mood-boosting, brain food.
